A disaster is a serious event that disrupts communities and causes human, material, economic, or environmental losses. Disasters often occur with little warning and can result in severe destruction. Common disasters include earthquakes, floods, landslides, fires, droughts, epidemics, and pandemics.

SoD Nepal works in emergency relief by directly reaching disaster-affected communities and providing essential humanitarian materials such as food, clothing, health equipment, and other emergency supplies. It also supports displaced people and disaster victims in their recovery and gradual resettlement. For example, during the Rasuwa flash flood in 2026, SoD Nepal directly reached affected people and provided essential relief materials. During the earthquake of 2015, SoD Nepal built temporary learning centers and supported the reconstruction of permanent school buildings in affected districts.

On August 26, 2026, a devastating flash flood swept through the Bhotekoshi River corridor in Rasuwa, causing widespread destruction in communities along the river and downstream areas. The sudden flood damaged homes, roads, bridges, hydropower and other infrastructure, while many families lost their homes, belongings and sources of livelihood.

In response to the disaster, SOD distributed emergency relief materials to flood-affected people and families in Rasuwa–Bhotekoshi. The relief support focused on helping affected communities meet their immediate needs during the difficult period following the flood. Through this emergency response, SOD extended support to vulnerable families and stood in solidarity with communities working to recover and rebuild after the devastating disaster.
